BedbugsAdult bed bugs are oval and flat, and about 1/4 inch long. They are a reddish brown color and do not have wings. Immature bed bugs look similar to adults but are smaller and lighter in color. A female bed bug can lay up to 50 eggs at a time and over 500 in it's lifetime. Eggs are about 1 mm long and are translucent.
Bed bugs feed on blood and use a proboscis to penetrate the skin of their host. They locate their hosts by detecting carbon dioxide and can also sense the warmth and moisture of their potential victim. |
Identifying Bedbugs
Adult bed bugs are a reddish brown color, wingless, and are about the size of an apple seed. Immature bed bugs are smaller than adults and lighter in color.
First-instar nymphs are the most difficult to see because they hatch directly out of the egg.

How DO I know if I have bedbugs?
The first sign of bed bugs is usually bites. Bites are typically red and itchy and may appear in rows or clusters. Not everyone reacts the same to bed bug bites, the reaction can be delayed and some people have no reaction at all.
You can also do a visual inspection of your mattress or sleeping area using a flashlight. Dark spotting or blood droplets on mattresses and bedding is an indication that bed bugs may be present. The bugs themselves can be difficult to locate. Be sure to remove your mattress to inspect the box spring, bed frame, and headboard. Check all cracks, crevices, corners, and staples.
The best way to determine if you have a bed bug infestation is to contact us and have us come out to do a visual inspection. We provide our initial inspections at no charge and if needed we can recommend a K-9 inspection with Bed Bug Investigations.
